Preparation :
- Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Cook Beef Mixture: In a large skillet over medium heat, heat the olive oil. Add the ground beef, chopped onion, and kosher salt. Cook until the beef is browned and the onions are softened, about 8–10 minutes. Drain any excess fat. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
- Prepare Pie Plate: Spray a 9-inch pie plate with nonstick cooking spray. Transfer the beef mixture into the pie plate, spreading it evenly.
- Make Batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, buttermilk, and melted butter until smooth. Add the flour and baking powder, whisking until well combined.
- Assemble Pie: Pour the batter over the beef mixture in the pie plate. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
- Bake: Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake until the top is browned and the center is set, about 25 minutes.
- Serve: Allow the pie to cool slightly before slicing. Serve with optional toppings like pickle slices, ketchup, or burger sauce.
📝 Tips:
- Meat Variations: Feel free to substitute ground beef with ground turkey, chicken, or bison for a different flavor profile.
- Cheese Options: While cheddar is classic, you can experiment with other cheeses like mozzarella or pepper jack for a twist.
- Add-Ins: Consider adding cooked bacon bits, sautéed mushrooms, or diced tomatoes to the beef mixture for added flavor.
