Ground Beef and Gravy Over Mashed Potatoes Recipe

Ingredients
For the Ground Beef and Gravy:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups beef broth
- ½ cup milk or heavy cream
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- ½ tsp salt (adjust to taste)
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp paprika (optional)
- ½ tsp dried thyme (optional)
For the Mashed Potatoes:
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 4 tbsp butter
- ½ cup milk (or heavy cream for extra creaminess)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
1. Prepare the Mashed Potatoes
- Boil the cubed potatoes in a large pot of salted water for about 15 minutes, or until fork-tender.
- Drain and return the potatoes to the pot.
- Add butter, milk, salt, and pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy. Cover and set aside.
2. Cook the Ground Beef and Gravy
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Add diced onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
- Push the beef mixture to the side of the pan and melt 2 tbsp butter in the center.
- Sprinkle 2 tbsp flour over the butter, stirring constantly for 1 minute to make a roux.
- Gradually whisk in beef broth and milk, stirring until smooth.
- Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, paprika, and thyme. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until the gravy thickens.
3. Assemble and Serve
- Spoon mashed potatoes onto plates.
- Ladle the ground beef and gravy mixture over the potatoes.
- Garnish with fresh parsley (optional) and serve warm.
